Maple Leaf Foods Acquiring Saskatchewan Farms
On June 30, 2021, Maple Leaf Foods announced the acquisitions of four pig farms in central Saskatchewan. The deal includes both sow and nursery barns that will tie into the company’s Brandon, Man. pork processing facility.
“This purchase offers us ready access to some of the healthiest hogs in Saskatchewan that will allow us to enhance our deliveries of high-quality pork to customers in Canada and Asia,” said Michael Detlefsen, President of the Maple Leaf Foods Pork Complex. “Bringing these barns into Maple Leaf Foods aligns with our strategy to pursue growth both domestically and abroad.”
Cameco Evacuates Cigar Lake Mine due to Wildfire
Cameco has removed all non-essential personnel from its Cigar Lake uranium mine due to a wildfire near the area. Production has been suspended temporarily.
